Divisions in political parties are something that any politician is used to, especially when the party loses an election.
There is always the blame game that takes longer to get over.
After losing the election in 2016 and after organizing quite a number of Unity Walks, it has been revealed by someone in the top hierarchy of the NDC that there are divisions in the party.
Alban Bagbin, a former Minister of State in both Atta-Mills and Mahama’s government and also the former majority leader in Parliament made this revelation on the first day of Amissah-Arthur’s funeral.

Bagbin said he was expecting the Party to attend the funeral together but they attended it in different groups or individually.
“I just pray that his death is able to do that [unite the party]”.
“It is quite difficult but I don’t see even the party taking advantage of his sudden departure to put that together”.
At the funeral, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah attended the funeral with other executives when everyone was expecting him to be there leading his party with his fellow party members.
This clearly shows that the numerous Unity Walks the party has been organizing has not been able to unite the party as expected.
But if there are really divisions who are those leading the factions? And what is the cause of the divisions in the party?
As at now it is clear that Spio Garbrah and former President John Mahama are will contest for the party’s Presidential aspirant position. Does this mean they are the leaders of the factions in the party?
A few years ago, the party was divided between John Dramani Mahama and founder of the party, Jerry John Rawlings. However, John Rawlings seems to have lost control and the influence he had on the party as compared to that of John Mahama.
