Asante Kotoko have shown keen interest in securing the services of seasoned striker John Antwi from Dreams FC, according to reports.
The Porcupine Warriors have initiated contact with Dreams FC to explore the possibility of acquiring the 31-year-old forward, who has played a pivotal role in his team’s success in the CAF Confederation Cup thus far.
Antwi joined Dreams FC in August this year, following the expiration of his contract with Al Faisaly in Jordan. Since joining Dreams FC, he has made a notable impact, scoring four goals and providing one assist in eight appearances, contributing to the club’s advancement to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup in their debut. They are currently joint top of their group, with qualification to the knockout stage very possible.
His impressive performances have caught the attention of Asante Kotoko SC, prompting them to express a strong desire to add him to their squad. The striker, who previously played for Eleven Wise, boasts a remarkable track record in the Egyptian Premier League, tallying 77 goals in 193 appearances across five different clubs, including Ismaily SC, Al Ahly SC, Pyramids FC, Misr El Makasa, and Tala’ea El Gaish SC since his move to Egypt in 2012.
Despite Asante Kotoko’s interest, Dreams FC are said to have responded, indicating that they will only entertain offers for Antwi after the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
Furthermore, John Antwi has earned a spot in Ghana’s provisional squad list for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament in Cote d’Ivoire next month.
The unfolding situation raises questions about whether Asante Kotoko SC will intensify their pursuit of Antwi’s signature. However, their evident interest signals a clear intent to bolster their squad with the inclusion of this experienced striker for the second half of the season.
