The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is also the Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been petitioned to stop the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Kwasi Obiri-Danso from converting the male halls into mixed halls.
Otumfuo Ankobeahene accepted the petition on behalf of the Asantehene.
While the lawsuit filed against the school was done by current and some old students of the school, the petition to the Asantehene was done by the alumni of both Unity and University Hall.

The old and current hall members of the hall are angry with the decision by the school authorities because they see the move as a means to silence the students and also destroy the traditions in the two halls.
The alumni have sent a word of advice to parents whose daughters will be given Unity and University Hall as their hall of residence to stop their daughters as it will not help them.

Both Unity and University Hall have been the only male halls on KNUST campus for over 50 years and their activities have led to the death of numerous students.
The VC and other school authorities have decided to convert the two halls into a mixed hall to end the clashes between the two male halls who are always fighting for supremacy.
