A leisurely swimming excursion turned fatal for a 21-year-old man, identified as Atta Kwaku, who drowned in the Owabi River along the Esasse Daabaa road in the Ashanti Region.
According to a report published in the DailyGuide on July 3, 2023, Atta Kwaku’s lifeless body was discovered on July 1, 2023, and subsequently taken to the morgue for further procedures.
The report states that despite strong warnings from his friends, the deceased disregarded their cautions and jumped into the river right before their eyes.
Regrettably, his friends were unable to rescue him when they realized that Atta Kwaku did not resurface after diving into the water.
The Assemblyman of the Owabi-Bokankye Electoral Area, Malik Osei Kwame, promptly reported the incident to the Abuakwa Divisional Police Command.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police, accompanied by the Assemblyman, swiftly arrived at the scene to investigate the drowning.
“Upon receiving the information, a team of officers, accompanied by the complainant, promptly proceeded to the scene in Owabi Old Town to conduct an investigation. Upon arrival, the police were assisted by the Chief of Owabi, Nana Nuako, local divers, and concerned members of the community.
“With the invaluable assistance of the local divers, the body of Atta Kwaku, a 21-year-old native of Ahafo-Kenyasi, was successfully recovered and identified. The deceased was found wearing red boxer shorts,” stated the police report.
The report further mentioned that a thorough examination of Atta Kwaku’s body revealed no signs of physical violence upon retrieval.
Photographic documentation of the scene was carried out, and subsequently, the body was transported to the mortuary at Mount Sinai Hospital in Tabre, where it awaits an autopsy.
