Some residents of Mampong in the Ashanti Region have planned to welcome the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a demonstration when he tours the area.
The President will be there to a cut a sod for the construction of a warehouse in the area and it is the location of the yet to be built warehouse that has caused the planned and pending demonstration to welcome the President.
The yet to be built warehouse will be use to store maize, however, reports indicate the warehouse will not be built at where they grow the maize but rather at a place where they grow onions, plantain and cassava.
This problem is believed to have come up as a result of a misunderstanding between the MP and the MCE for the area as both leaders want it at the place of their choice.
On the Ejura road, most of the towns are known to me maize farming areas, meanwhile, the MCE has been able to get authorities to build the warehouse at an onion, plantain and cassava growing area.
Asante Gyimah, Mampong Communications Officer told Fox FM in Kumasi that the warehouse will be 20 kilometres away from the Maize growing areas.
According to him, the MCE has told the people to demonstrate against the President should he be there and tell the authorities to change the location of the warehouse.
As a result in other to prevent any disturbance, they “sent a letter to the Ashanti Regional Minister to stop Nana Addo from coming to Mampong”.
However, Asante Gyimah believes apart it being economically right, it will be politically right to build the warehouse in a maize growing area on the Ejura as NPP do not win votes in those areas.
He described the decision by the MCE as “lacking common sense”.
Also, he described the relationship between the MCE and the MP as a bad one.
The President is expected to go to Mampong tomorrow and cut the sod for the construction of the warehouse.
As at now, no information has come from the Office of the President to indicate a change of plan or not.
