The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Asokwa Municipal Assembly (AMA) are fighting over a landfill site at Atonsu Kuwait in Kumasi which serves the city and its environs.
The Boti landfill site which is currently under the Asokwa Municipal Assembly is still under the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly after the creation of AMA.
While the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has ordered KMA to hand over landfill site to AMA, KMA has refused to do what the Minister is saying.
According to reports, KMA believes they are the one supposed to manage the site as they have a Waste Management Department while AMA has an Environmental Department.
Also, KMA wants to manage the site due to the debt they have incurred while managing the site.
Osei Mensah, yesterday said on Angel FM that the order he gave is the stand he has taken although the Sanitation Minister has the final say.
He also said he has told KMA that he will let auditors do an audit after which they will find a way to pay the debt.
He also called on the Mayor of Kumasi, Osei Assibey Antwi to disassociate himself from the tussle between Assemblies as they are creating a problem for him.
Osei Mensah also said he “will write to the Mayor and tell him to come and if he can he should tell him he won’t be there.”
