Spanish side Atletico Madrid has beaten former Champions League winners, Olympic Marseille to win the Uefa Europa League.
The French side lost by three goals to zero at Parc Oympique Lyonnais in France.
The first clear chance of the game fell to Marseille but the attacker missed the chance in the early stages of the game after a nice through pass from Payet.
Man of the match, Antoine Greizmann scored two goals in each half and a goal by Atletico’s captain Gabi in the dying minutes of the game made it three for the Spanish side.
Greizmann scored the first goal after a bad ball control by a Marseille defender and also scored the second with a nice chip over of Marseille goalkepper, Mandanda.
Marseille were hoping to be the first French side to win the Europa league but they will now have to wait for another opportunity.
Marseille’s captain, Payet was substituted in the first half after sustaining an injury. The Frenchman who was cleared fit a few days to final said in the press conference before the game that ‘they will have to score a goal more than Atletico to win the trophy’.
Ghana’s Thomas Partey and club legend Fernando Torres came on in the second half to replace Correa and Greizmann respectively.
They have now won the trophy 3 times.
