According to a report by graphiconline.com, the Headteacher of Benkum Senior High School (SHS) in the Eastern Region of Ghana has been placed on interdiction following allegations of engaging in sexual misconduct with students.
Emmanuel Nyarko, the accused Headteacher, is facing investigations by the Ghana Education Service (GES) after approximately 15 female students from his school came forward with reports of his involvement in the alleged misconduct. The incidents are said to have occurred in 2022, and the matter came to light when some teachers, who were also allegedly involved in similar acts, implicated Mr. Nyarko when efforts were made to transfer them to different schools.
In an interview with CITI FM, Yaw Opoku Mensah, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Education Ministry, confirmed that the GES in the region is leading the investigation. He stated that the school has been cooperating with the GES to ensure a thorough investigation. The Education Ministry is closely monitoring the situation, and the findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the GES Headquarters in Accra for further action.
Mr. Mensah emphasized that the investigation is underway, with the regional education authorities overseeing the process. He mentioned that the school has made arrangements for the headmaster to step aside and provide the necessary space for the investigative committee to carry out their work, in accordance with the code of conduct of the GES.
“The Ministry is monitoring the development, and we urge the public to remain calm and assist with the investigative process. Eventually, the outcome of the investigations will be communicated to the GES headquarters for further actions to be taken,” Mr. Mensah explained.
