The Black Queens of Ghana showcased their relentless form by securing a commanding 2-0 win against Benin in the second leg of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 31.
This impressive victory marked the Black Queens’ tenth consecutive win in all competitions since Coach Nora Hauptle assumed charge in January 2023. The win came as a result of goals from Evelyn Badu and an own goal by the opponent, further solidifying their dominance in the region.
Ghana had already established a significant lead in the first leg of the fixture, having triumphed 3-0 in Cotonou, Benin, on Sunday, October 29. With a final aggregate score of 5-0, the Black Queens advanced to the third round of the Olympic Games qualifiers.
The match kicked off with Ghana displaying their attacking prowess but failing to convert their chances into goals, resulting in a goalless first half.
However, the Black Queens’ persistence paid off as Evelyn Badu broke the deadlock with a sublime finish in the 65th minute, giving Ghana the lead.
Just ten minutes later, the Queens extended their advantage. Badu mounted intense pressure on the opponent, forcing an own goal and increasing the lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute.
With their convincing victory, the Black Queens secured their spot in the next stage of the Olympic Games qualifiers, where they are set to face one of Africa’s football powerhouses, Zambia.
Before the next round of qualifiers, Ghana will also participate in an AFCON qualifier against Namibia, continuing their quest for excellence in women’s football.
