The Black Queens have successfully secured their spot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, despite a 1-0 defeat to Namibia in the second leg of the qualifiers on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The Queens advanced with a 3-2 aggregate victory, having triumphed 3-1 in the first leg.
While Namibia claimed a first-half lead in the second leg, it wasn’t enough to propel them to the tournament hosted in Morocco. Namibia showcased superiority, controlling the game and effectively limiting Ghana’s offensive threat, making them the first team to prevent the Black Queens from scoring in eleven matches.
This loss marks the first under the management of new coach Nora Hauptle for the Black Queens. Nevertheless, their primary objective of qualifying for the WAFCON has been achieved, marking their return to the competition for the first time since 2018.
Ghana now joins the ranks of Morocco, South Africa, and Algeria as the fourth country to secure qualification for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
