Angel FM Accra sports journalist, Saddick Adams has in a tweet revealed that a player who went to African Cup of Nations with the national team has told him that the players felt bad for Richmond Lamptey.
“A player of the Black Stars after the show last night told me that, at a point, they as players felt really bad for Richmond Lamptey,” Adams said in the tweet.
“He says that, in the over 8 training sessions that the team held, Richmond Lamptey will rank as the best or second best in all the traning sessions.
Mentions Djiku and Osman Bukari as the only two who perhaps would rank alongside. However, they all never understood why he was never in any match day squad. This Lamptey story has been corroborated by a technical team member this morning. The player adds that we should apologize to Lamptey and investigate the issue. Glad that they’re opening up and being honest but..,” he added.
Lamptey’s inclusion in the Black Stars did not come as a surprise due to his performance in the Ghana Premier League for his club Asante Kotoko. However, for the three matches that Ghana played at the AFCON, fans were surprised to see that he never sat on the bench especially when he was the only Central Midfielder in the team apart from Ashimeeru who was the coach’s first choice.
Apart from not sitting on the bench in the games played at the AFCON, he was also an unused sub in the friendly game against Namibia at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
