The Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, will pay tribute to their late teammate Christian Atsu during their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match against Angola.
The announcement was made by Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), who expressed the team’s sadness at Atsu’s passing.

In an interview with Original FM on the Super Sports Show, Twum stated that the Black Stars players were deeply affected by Atsu’s death and that they would honor him during the match against Angola.
The two teams are scheduled to play each other on March 23 and March 27 in the next round of the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Ivory Coast.
The first leg of the games will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Ghana on March 23, with the Black Stars hosting Angola.
The second leg will be played in Luanda, Angola’s capital, on March 27. Atsu, who passed away on January 13, 2023, played as a forward for the Ghanaian national team and was known for his skills on the field.
His death came as a shock to the football community in Ghana and around the world, and the Black Stars’ tribute to him will undoubtedly be a fitting tribute to his legacy.
