Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richard ‘Agadas’ Boadu will be earning about 28 times the annual salary he was making in Ghana when his move is done.
According to Adehyeε FM’s Richmond Opoku Afriyie, the former Kotoko captain was earning ₵3,500 a month. Meaning he was on ₵42,000 annual salary at the club which is around $3,671.40.
His move to Libyan club, Al Ahly will fetch him $100,000 a year which is ₵1,143,983.00, according to the report.
Ghanaian clubs have been struggling to keep their key players due to the low salaries the players are paid. Last season, Kotoko striker, Franck Mbella Etouga joined Egyptian club Al Masry for a $25,000-a-month salary while defender, Ibrahim Imoro joined Sudanese club Al Hilal for a reported $10,000-a-month salary. According to reports, Mbella was earning $2000 while Imoro was taking home less than ₵3000 a month.
This situation has affected the Ghanaian Premier League as the number of fans who go to the stadium to watch matches is at its worst.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has blamed the clubs for not being able to keep their star players while the clubs have also blamed the FA for the low investment in the league.
The winner of the Ghanaian league takes home ₵250,000 which is around $21,853.56 while the winner of the Tanzanian Premier League gets 6 million Tanzanian Shillings which is $243,902.44.
