A new rendition of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Stir it Up with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie was at number 1 on iTunes Top 100 chart in Ghana as of Saturday, 21 January 2023.
The rendition was released on Friday, 20 January on all streaming platforms. The song was first released by the Jamaican music star in 1973 and it became the first song written by the No Woman No Cry hitmaker to become successful outside his country.
When I had the email, I almost passed it on and not just out of respect, I felt that I was not worthy to lay my vocals next to the legend. I was really hard on myself,” Sarkodie told Amazon Music’s +44 Podcast.
“My manager was like, ‘This is a big opportunity.’ But, the artist side of me was thinking more about the art and not the opportunity,” the 37-year-old rapper added. “When I was listening to [Bob Marley’s vocals], it was a very spiritual moment.”
The video for the song has had nearly 400,000 views in 2 days.
