A 15-year old boy, Emmanuel Ankrah popularly called Aguero has been jailed by the Assin-Fosu Circuit Court presided over by his Lordship Agyenim Quartey for stealing a smartphone.
Aguero after his sentencing narrated how he ended up in the grips of the police.
Aguero who lives at Assin-Nsuta and is in Class 6 at Assin-Nsuta Methodist Basic School said he dropped out of school as he could not pay his school fees.
According to him, apart from this strong desire to get an education, he also wanted to stay in school because he loved ‘games’ and after staying home for four months all he wanted was to go to school.
Aguero then broke into Emmanuel Karzonu’s house in the night, stole his phone and went to sit beside pipe-borne water at Assin-Nsuta.
Karzonu was able to trace him and found him sitting beside the pipe-borne water. Aguero said he explained to Karzonu why he had to steal the phone but he did not listen. Instead he was beaten and sent to the police.
Aguero also said he has never seen his father before and he lives with his unemployed grandmother who is supporting his education asked Karzonu to forgive him and has advised children not to follow in his footsteps.
Aguero who has been sent to two years in prison also asked for help as he wants to go back to school when he is released.
