Former management member of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkor has said he would have accepted the role of Technical Director and stayed at Kotoko if he was in the shoes of Charles Kombla Akonnor.
The former Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive believes if C.K had accepted the role he was offered; he would now have gotten the chance to coach the club again.
He described his decision to resign as a bad one as it would have been a new challenge for him.
“I am not the one to decide for Kotoko, CK decision to resign from the club was not good. If I was CK I would have accepted that challenge and moved on. If he had accepted, the mantle would have fallen for him again to become the coach. He should have accepted the challenge”, Happy Ghana reports.
Adding, he said: “If he had stayed and taken up the technical role of the club, he would have resumed his duties as a coach during this crisis”.
The former Wolfsburg captain after winning the Normalization Committee Tier One Special Competition was offered the role of Technical Director which he rejected.
He reported his former club to the Player Status Committee and Kotoko has been ordered to pay him over ₵1.4 million.
His successor, Kjetil Zachariassen, however, has failed to live up to expectation. Although it has not been confirmed, Zachariassen, according to reports, is no longer the coach of Kotoko.
