According to the court case, a carpenter apprentice named Bright Yaw Essuman has been charged and remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing a revolver pistol without proper authorization. The accused, who is currently undergoing an apprenticeship in carpentry at Okponglo near East Legon-Accra, has denied the charge and will appear in court again on January 26, 2023.
The police report states that a team of police officers on patrol duty received intelligence that Essuman had a foreign revolver pistol and was searching for a potential buyer. The patrol team proceeded to the location of Essuman and found him with another person. Upon seeing the police, the two individuals fled but were eventually apprehended by the police. A search of Essuman led to the retrieval of the foreign revolver pistol.
During investigations, Essuman admitted that he had no documents covering the weapon and that he had found it in a kiosk around Okponglo. He also admitted that he and his friend were searching for a prospective buyer to sell the weapon for GHS 2,000.00. It is unclear whether the weapon was stolen or not.
Essuman was arraigned in court and efforts are being made to apprehend his accomplice who is currently at large. The case highlights the need for stricter regulations and controls on the possession of firearms, as well as the importance of proper documentation for weapons to ensure they are not obtained illegally.
It is also important to note that possession of firearms without proper authorization is a serious crime and if found guilty, the accused person may face severe penalties such as imprisonment. The court case also raises questions about the background and intentions of the accused, and whether he had any prior criminal records or involvement in illegal activities.
