Shatta Wale has voiced his dissatisfaction with the Black Stars’ lackluster performance in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Cape Verde. In a video shared on social media, the award-winning artist directed his critique towards the Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials, proposing a renaming of the team to ‘Black Soil’ due to what he perceives as their inability to deliver notable results.
In the video, Shatta Wale argued, “How can a star be black? Name the team Black Soil so they can at least produce something because black soils are the best.”
The critique follows Ghana’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in the opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The Black Stars faced setbacks at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, as goals from Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodrigues secured a victory for Cape Verde. While Alexander Djiku managed to score a lone goal for Ghana, it proved insufficient to alter the overall outcome of the match. Shatta Wale’s candid commentary adds an additional layer of scrutiny to the team’s performance, echoing the sentiments of fans and critics alike.
