Ashanti Gold Sporting Club has received an official suspension from all Ghana Football Association (GFA) activities, as announced during the GFA’s 29th Ordinary Congress held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The suspension comes as a result of Ashantigold’s decision to continue their involvement with banned officials Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong, who were sanctioned by the GFA due to their involvement in match manipulation, thereby breaching the GFA code of ethics. The GFA Disciplinary Committee had previously imposed 10-year and 8-year bans on Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong, respectively, while the clubs implicated in the match manipulation, AshantiGold and Inter Allies, were demoted to the Division Two League.
Furthermore, several players and coaches faced their own suspensions following the GFA’s ruling, which was issued prior to the conclusion of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season. Despite these penalties, Ashanti Gold’s decision to disregard the imposed suspensions has led the GFA to impose a complete suspension on the club from all official football activities. This decision was ratified by Congress.
During the Congress, the motion for Ashanti Gold’s suspension was proposed by Ameenu Shardow, the Administrative Manager of Dreams FC. However, Alhaji Grusah, the bankroller of King Faisal, opposed the motion, leading to a vote by headcount. Ultimately, 67 members voted in favor of the motion for suspension, while 17 voted against it.
Consequently, Ashanti Gold is now prohibited from participating in any GFA-related activities, including competitions, and will not have a voice in subsequent Congresses.
