Cost of National Cathedral unknown for now – Board of Trustees

The cost of the national cathedral is not yet known as the Board of Trustees for the project say architects have not yet completed their work.

The Secretary of the Board of Trustees for National Cathedral, Rev. Victor Kusi, said architects are not yet done with their drawings, delaying estimates for the 5,000 capacity seater project.

“…until they are through with all their drawings, we can’t come up with the figure for the construction,” he said on Eyewitness News.

“You and I know that before you build the house, you get the concept of the house and the purpose and usage of the house. It is after which that you call and sit an architect down, bring in the structural engineers and all that. Until you bring them on board and they are through with their figures, you can’t get the actuals on the ground.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the national cathedral for on March 6, 2017, as part of events that marked Ghana’s 60th-anniversary celebration.

Funding for the project is to be sourced from individuals within the Christian community.

Regardless of the cost, the board expects the completed project to rake in a lot of revenue.

“It will amaze you when we are through as to the generation that will be made within the running the of the cathedral, with regards to financing,” Rev. Kusi stated.
These expectations influenced the siting of the project in Accra, Rev. Kusi explained.

“Wherever you have convention centres and wherever you have cathedrals, they are not hidden, they are put in the business centres. If you go to New York, you will see what I am talking about. Go to Paris, you’ll see it.”

“For you to get the economic benefits of all that we are going to put into this, it has to be very strategic… We want to put up a structure that can also bring a lot of generation that will go a long way to support the government and support our people.”
