Over the weekend, the Ghanaian Police made significant progress in their investigation of the Ablekuma Fan milk bullion van robbery by apprehending two additional suspects. These new suspects were taken into custody and brought before the Kaneshie District Court for further legal proceedings.
With these recent arrests, the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with the robbery has reached four. Among those previously arrested were Benjamin Ojogbe, an unemployed individual, and Rashid Abdul. On July 4, 2023, the same court remanded them in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder in relation to the incident.
The robbery operation, allegedly involving the four accused individuals, resulted in the tragic death of Lance Corporal Calyptus Amoah. The unfortunate event occurred on July 4, 2023, when unknown assailants reportedly shot and killed Lance Corporal Amoah during a suspected robbery attempt on a bullion van at a fuel station in Ablekuma Fan milk.
According to the Ghana Police Service’s statement, the suspects had been tailing the bullion van, which had stopped at the fuel station for refueling when the shootout ensued. Lance Corporal Amoah, who was on security duty seated in the front passenger seat, was fatally shot at close range during the confrontation.
In a significant development, two more suspects were arrested in connection with the case, adding to the progress made in the investigation. The new suspects are currently in lawful custody and are set to appear before the court on August 3, 2023.
Moreover, on July 15, the Police made another breakthrough when they arrested an additional accused person in neighboring Togo, further expanding their efforts to bring all involved parties to justice.
