Cristiano Ronaldo has overtaken Lionel Messi to become the first football player to reach a billion dollars in earnings.
The Juventus forward earned 105 million dollars before taxes and fees in 2019 to cross first the line of the billion-dollar income.
According to Forbes, Cristiano has earned around 650m dollars from football in his 17-year professional career.
He is expected to reach 765m dollars when his current contract comes to an end in June 2022, without taking into account the money he has earned from sponsorship deals.
Meanwhile, Messi has earned 605m dollars in salary at Barcelona, having played three fewer years of professional football than Cristiano.
Golfer Tiger Woods and boxer Floyd Mayweather have managed to reach one billion euros in earnings in the past, but Cristiano is the first team-sport player to do so.
