Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong has criticized the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for dashing out monies to Black Stars management committee members at the expense of football in the country.
Following Ghana’s early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, multiple reports emerged that each member of the Black Stars management was paid $100,000.
The decision by the Ghana FA attracted a lot of criticism following the country’s poor performance at the Mundial.
Speaking at the official launch of his campaign, Mr Agyapong said he was surprised with the decision of the FA to dash out monies at the expense of Ghanaian clubs struggling in African competition and the poor nature of football in the country.
He added that such decisions by the FA will be a thing of the past when he is voted as president of the country.
“Football is about spectatorship and you cannot do it without the fans,” Mr Agyapong said.
“Ghana has been at the World Cup four times in the last five and the monies that were paid did not go into areas that matter, especially Colts football where talents are discovered.
“How come Black Stars management committee members are paid $100,000 each at the expense of Ghana football? It is a case of misplaced priority.
“Ghanaian clubs are struggling to make an impact in African competitions and it seems people don’t care. Local clubs must be revived and when I am voted into power as the president of this country, these things will change,” he added.
Ghana recorded a win against South Korea and two defeats against Portugal and Uruguay to exit the tournament with three points.
