Reportedly, three individuals have been remanded into police custody in connection with the alleged murder of a 28-year-old woman named Vida Ennin. The incident occurred at Dwinase near Kokotro in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti region. The prime suspect, 25-year-old Mary Akosua Agyemang, is accused of killing Vida Ennin in a fight over a man named George Amoah, who is an excavator driver in Dwinase and both are said to be dating. The other two accused individuals are Felicia Sarpong, 61 years old, and Ernest Achirem, 63 years old, who are accused of attempting to protect the main suspect.
Details have emerged about the altercation that led to the fight between the women and how the accused’s parents attempted to hide her from the police. According to a report by UTV, the victim, Vida Ennin, and George Amoah were previously living together as a couple, but they separated after a fight, and she moved to Kumasi. However, they continued to see each other, even though they were not living together as a couple.
Upon Vida Ennin’s return to Dwinase, she discovered that Mary Akosua Agyemang (Serwaa) and George Amoah were living together as a couple and had a six-month-old child together. On Easter Monday, April 10, 2023, the women engaged in a serious confrontation. Serwaa allegedly insulted Vida, saying that she was barren and envious of the fact that Serwaa had a child with her former boyfriend. This led to Vida making comments about Serwaa’s sick child, which further infuriated her.
Serwaa, a seamstress, heard the comments made by Vida about her child and allegedly attacked her with a sharp object, believed to be a knife. She stabbed Vida’s breast, created a large cut on her face from her forehead to her eyes and mouth. After they were separated, Vida was rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Following Vida’s death, Serwaa’s parents, Felicia Sarpong (the mother) and Ernest Achirem (the father), reportedly hid her in a room at their residence. When the police searched the house, they discovered a locked room, which they broke into and found the accused person hiding.
Serwaa and her parents are expected to appear in court again on April 26, 2023. The police are also searching for the person who informed Serwaa that Vida had insulted her.
