Isaac Dogboe, the Ghanaian boxer and former WBO featherweight champion, lost his title fight against Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramirez by unanimous decision in Tulsa, United States. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Ramirez became the first Cuban boxer since 1962 to win a world title after outscoring Dogboe over 12 rounds.
Despite throwing more punches, Dogboe was outclassed by Ramirez’s experience and ability to maintain distance and land penetrating punches. Although Dogboe appeared to be winning the opening rounds, Ramirez was very economical with his punches and eventually gained the upper hand. In the 12th round, Ramirez knocked Dogboe down, sealing his victory and ensuring that Dogboe would not regain his title.
The three official judges scored the fight 117-110, 118-109, and 119-108 in favor of Ramirez, who is now focused on moving forward rather than entertaining the possibility of a rematch. Dogboe, however, expressed his desire for a rematch during the post-fight press conference.
It is worth noting that it took Dogboe five years to earn a second world title shot following his two defeats to Emanuel Navarrete. Despite his loss, Dogboe has demonstrated his resilience and determination to compete at the highest level of professional boxing.
