Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also serves as the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to inaugurate the ‘Ghana Card Number at Birth’ initiative on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The launch will take place at the Ga North Hospital in Ofankor, located in the Greater Accra Region. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that every child born in Ghana is assigned a unique identity number.
However, it’s noteworthy that the Ghana card will be issued to the child once they reach the age of 15.
The initiative, dubbed “Ghana Card Number at Birth,” is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President. It aligns with the government’s commitment to providing every Ghanaian with a Ghana card, facilitating easy access to essential social services.
To date, the National Identification Authority has successfully registered 17.5 million Ghanaians onto its biometric data register. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing identification and ensuring comprehensive coverage of the Ghanaian population.
