Former Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has said that it will be difficult for the country to fight corruption if we do not change our political system.
At a public forum in Accra, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah who also served as a Minister of State at the Presidency said “Our hands are tied. People have given you T-shirts, money and all kinds of things and now you are dealing with them. It was almost unconscionable,” he stated.
He stated that the only way to fight corruption is to deal with the system because when you are in power the party financiers will start making demands which you cannot turn down.
He explained that the system which we have created “institutionalizes and legitimizes the corruption and at the same time we say we want to deal with the corruption.”
“Haven’t you ask yourself” which “sensible person will sign that contract,” he asked.
“Some of us nearly lost our lives because of the pressures within and without,” he said “because you are cutting off” the party’s source of funding.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah indicated that most of the offenders are party financiers of both ruling and opposition political parties so “they will come after you”.
He further revealed that most of the corrupt deals that are made by the government is always liked to a party financier.
