The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo), responsible for operating the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS), has attributed the recent power outages experienced in certain parts of Ghana to a limited supply of gas to the Tema power generation plants. This gas shortage has led to a supply gap of 550MW during peak demand periods.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, October 26, 2023, GRIDCo announced that parts of the country would face challenges in power supply during peak hours. The statement expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by these power disruptions.
The insufficient gas supply to power generation plants in Tema has resulted in reduced electricity generation capacity, leading to periodic blackouts in affected areas. GRIDCo is working to address these challenges and minimize disruptions in the power supply to consumers.
