A disturbing incident unfolded following Ghana’s defeat to Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, as an infuriated fan physically attacked head coach Chris Hughton.
The assailant, whose identity remains undisclosed, was promptly arrested in Abidjan for assaulting Hughton at the team’s hotel. According to multiple sources, the assault triggered the immediate intervention of Ghanaian diplomats present at the scene. They managed to rescue Coach Hughton before handing the assailant over to the police.
