We can’t pinpoint a topic that has gained more popularity than “Politics”. In Ghana and the world at large politics runs through the veins of the hoi-polloi. It is indeed the most discussed topic in our homes, churches, markets, schools and the list goes on.
Would we be better off if we continue to kick around politics in the mainstream media? This question demands analysis. For me, Ghana will be seen as a naked destitute if she continues to swim in the lake of politics. Vigilant citizens will bear me out that the adverse sway of politics on the nation is not far from our noses.
When you gingerly look at the current output of farmers, teachers, health workers, business owners, etc, there is no doubt that Ghana has been steadily sliding in her technical, intellectual and scientific capacity. The judicial arm of government which ought to be independent has been distorted. This is the result of politics. We will experience throbbing famine if we don’t take care.
The media has had a hand in this. They have condoned politicians and connived with them to make politics look attractive to the people. The media today have created the impression that politicians are omniscient in all issues. Politicians are the ones presenting and misrepresenting nearly all important issues on radio and televisions.
This is alarming. Something must be done to save young intellectuals from being molded by these mountebanks who always propose nothing but harmful policies.
I was terribly disturbed when I saw two pretentious politicians trumpeting on television their amazing ability to fix the broken economy. After squashing our inherited market-based communities with decadent laws, these statists still want to suck our blood like vampires. Wicked people!
In order to solve this problem, we need the media, schools and civil societies to be apolitical. The media should be discussing programs that encourage private business and entrepreneurial activities rather than political solutions to all problems.
If we make conscious effort to support NGO’s and Youth Organizations, it will go a long way toward a brighter future, with young men and women of character and courage to lead our communities aware of their roles in a successful, prosperous civil society. Politics must not be given a chance, not even a minute.
