Black Stars Coach, Kwasi Appiah has recalled how he got to know that his father has died. Appiah who at the time was playing for Kumasi Asante Kotoko said it was former President Kufuor who broke the news to him.
Appiah was not in Ghana when his father died as Kotoko was playing in an away game in the CAF Champions League.
When the team returned to Ghana, Kufuor called Appiah, spoke to him before breaking the news of his father’s death to him.
The former Kotoko captain made the revelation on Kessben FM ahead of the JA Kufuor Cup.
After he told him of his father’s death, Kwasi Appiah then went on to say that the future president went with him to Sunyani and stay there till they finished the funeral.
When he became the president, Kwasi Appiah said Kufuor also gave him advice which has also helped him.
According to him, when he became an assistant coach of the Black Stars, he wanted to quit the job because at that time the head coach was receiving more than 12 times his salary.
He indicated he had spoken to the GFA officials about it but they were not listening to him.
He then decided to speak to Kufuor who at that time was the president of the country. Kufuor, he went on to say, told him that as an assistant coach, he is there to learn and should not think of receiving a big salary.
The advice, he added, has really helped him to date.
