Former First Lady, Theresa Kufuor, beloved wife of Ghana’s second President of the Fourth Republic, John Agyekum Kufuor, has sadly passed away. She departed this world at the age of 88, as confirmed by a close source within the Kufuor family, according to reports from Asaase News.
Theresa Kufuor’s passing occurred today, Sunday, October 1, 2023, just 24 days before her 89th birthday. This news marks a somber moment for Ghana, as the nation mourns the loss of a prominent figure.
The couple’s enduring love story began when they tied the knot on September 8, 1962. Remarkably, they recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary, underscoring the strength of their bond.

In a poignant revelation, the former President John Agyekum Kufuor once disclosed that he and Theresa married just a year after they first met. Their serendipitous encounter took place at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in 1961, held in London. At that time, John Agyekum Kufuor had freshly completed his law course, while Theresa had successfully completed her nursing program in Scotland.
Reflecting on their journey together, Kufuor fondly recalled, “We got talking at the dance and became friends who got married in 1962 and gave birth to our first child in 1963, the second in 1964.”
