A former Ugandan MP has destroyed boreholes he used his money to sink for his people after losing an election.
Patrick Okumu-Riga, was the MP for Padyere County for close to 10 years until he lost his seat in 2006.
Since then, he has been trying hard to regain his seat but has never been successful.
However, after losing in his party’s primaries, he decided to contest the election as an independent candidate, the New Vision reports.
Okumu-Riga came third in the Parliamentary elections after securing 1, 270 votes while the eventual winner got 4,283 votes out of a total 9,940 votes cast.
“I am hurt, but I will reconcile with them. However, for now, let them look for water elsewhere,” he said.
“Our people are not appreciative. All I wanted from them was votes. I have educated so many children, but all they tell me is I have done nothing,” he added.
The former MP started dismantling the 10 boreholes he had sunk for his people on Monday and ended on Wednesday, three days after the results were announced.
His action has divided his people as some people believe he should not have acted that way whereas others support what he did.
