Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming presidential election. The Elections Committee of the FA informed Afriyie of their decision, citing breaches of Article 13 (2) (j) of the GFA’s Statutes and his failure to provide the required number of FA members in support of his candidature.
George Afriyie was the only contender running against the incumbent President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku. With Afriyie’s disqualification, Okraku becomes the sole candidate in the presidential race, effectively running unopposed. The presidential election is expected to take place later this year.
