The Ghana Football Association is discussing how to introduce Video Assistant Referee in the Ghanaian football leagues to assist referees in their officiating.
While the VAR used in Europe is more advanced, the one the GFA is hoping to introduce will be less advanced and simple.
With help from the television broadcasters StarTimes, the GFA wants to put a TV or a screen beside the pitch so that in case there is an incident that needs a review, the referee can look at the slow-motion from the TV and use it to make a decision.
The screen which will be used as the VAR will be the same as the one that commentators have in front of them when running commentary.
As at now, the discussion is at the preliminary stages and The Post understands that should it be implemented, matches that will be shown live on TV will be the ones to have the VAR.
The VAR was first introduced in African football during the quarter-final stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and so far Morocco is the only African country to use the VAR in its domestic football.
