The Ghanaian government, through the Ministry of Transport, has announced the reinstatement of the visa-on-arrival service for passengers traveling to Ghana during the festive season. The decision, made in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Tourism, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Tourism Authority, aims to facilitate smoother travel experiences for visitors.
In a letter addressed to all airlines, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah outlined that the visa-on-arrival initiative will be in effect from Friday, December 1, to Sunday, January 14. The statement encourages airlines to update their systems accordingly and advises check-in personnel not to insist on entry visas before passengers board their flights.
The Minister emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s 10-year project, “Beyond The Return,” which seeks to provide Africans in the diaspora with an opportunity to connect with their roots. By easing visa requirements, Ghana aims to attract more tourists and encourage a sense of homecoming for the diaspora during the festive season.
This is not the first time Ghana has implemented the visa-on-arrival policy. The government successfully introduced it last year during the festive season, resulting in a significant influx of tourists from various parts of the world. The move reflects Ghana’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange, tourism, and strengthening ties with the diaspora community.
The decision, according to the Ministry, was made in consultation with the Foreign Affairs, Interior, Tourism Ministries, Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
In a letter addressed to all airlines, the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said the initiative commences from Friday, December 1 to Sunday January 14.
“Consequently, it would be appreciated if systems are updated to reflect this new arrangement and those responsible for checking-in passengers traveling to Ghana advised not to insist on entry visas prior to their boarding,” portions of the statement read.
