A mysterious story has emerged about a Ghanaian woman who has been residing in Taiwan for the past 33 years without any immigration documents. The woman, aged 63, has lived in Taiwan since 1989 without any official records of her presence in the country.
The report, as per taipeitimes.com, indicates that this woman arrived in Taiwan in June 1989 following a transit from Hong Kong and subsequently departed in March 1990. However, the police are now attempting to ascertain when and how she re-entered the country and how she managed to stay in Taiwan for such an extended period without any immigration records.
The Ghanaian national has claimed that she lives alone in a rented residence and works as a cleaner to support herself. The police are conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding her unrecorded re-entry into Taiwan and her prolonged residence in the country without detection.
The woman came to the attention of authorities when she was observed “acting suspiciously” by patrol officers on October 14, 2023, in New Taipei City’s Lujhou District. The officers followed her and, as she attempted to evade them, they requested her identification. She was unable to provide any form of identification, including a valid resident permit or passport.
Currently, the police are investigating her for potential violations of Taiwan’s immigration laws.
