Ghanaians not happy with Black Stars’ South Africa camping ahead of AFCON in Ivory Coast

The Ghana Football Association’s decision to let the Ghana men’s national team, the Black Stars camp in Johannesburg, South Africa has come as a shock to Ghanaians.

The tournament 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be played in the Ivory Coast, Ghana’s neighbouring country, therefore, Ghanaians do not see the reason why the players should be sent to the South Africa to prepare for the tournament.

At times the Black Stars camp in countries that has a similar weather condition to where they are going for a tournament or where they will have access to training facilities.

This is not the first time Ghanaians are not happy with where the Black Stars will be camping for a tournament. There have been instances where the players have camped in Europe or Middle East while a tournament is being played in Africa.

After the announcement, some Ghanaians posted on X to show their displeasure.

Black Stars camping is a lucrative business. Nothing about weather.

For the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, Ghana flew 10 hours to Abu Dhabi when the weather there was extremely hot.

It was freezing at the same time in Mbombela SA.

We are unable to raise money to maintain pitches in Ghana. Tamale,Accra etc. Meanwhile the Sports Ministry will approve thousands of dollars if not even over 1 million dollars for Black Stars to camp for just 10 days in SA. Herh!!! Motherland
