A section of Ghanaians during and after the reading to the 2019 budget showed no interest in it. The lack of interest has got nothing to do with the current government. The lack of interest is as a result of the ‘lies,’ they said ‘politicians have been telling them,’ The Post has gathered.
Unlike before where people make comments about what they were expecting, this year it was not like how it used to be.
Some Ghanaians after the budget was read said they were not interested in the budget as the politicians always use the budget to lie to them.
The ‘ahoto’ budget which was read by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will in the coming year bring comfort to the ordinary Ghanaian. Roads, railways and other developmental projects are going to be built to boost the economy but some Ghanaians have indicated they do not have hope in the budget especially with the construction of roads. The roads, they said, are always mentioned in the budget every year yet they are never constructed.
Obuasi residents after the budget called former President Mahama a liar after a road he said he had constructed during his time in office was mentioned in the budget as a yet to be constructed road.
Though some residents were happy that the government is going to construct the road, others mentioned that this is not the first time the road has appeared in the reading of a budget.
Also, the high cost of living also accounted for the lack of interest in this year’s budget. According to some people, there was no way this budget will include a reduction in tariffs, therefore, there is no reason for them to have an interest in the budget.
Until Ghanaians start seeing a change, there will be a continued lack of interest in the budget from now on.
