Ghana’s first Senior Minister, JH Mensah dead at 89

Ghanaian politician and economist, Joseph Henry Mensah have died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
He died this morning at the age of 89. JH Mensah is the brother-in-law of the former President John Agyekum Kuffour.

JH Mensah was the minority leader in Parliament before the NPP came into in 2001. He also served as the Finance Minister under Busia’s government.

In 1975, he was jailed by the National Redemption Council and was released in 1978.
He graduated from the University of Ghana and headed to the University of London and Standford University to receive a bachelor and a master’s degree in Economic theory and development.

He became the country’s first senior minister and was also the MP for Sunyani East District in the Brong Ahafo region.
