A few days after football governing body, FIFA sent a letter to Ghana stating clearly the country will be ban from football should the government not withdraw its case against the GFA from the court, the government of Ghana has replied FIFA indicating its stand on the issue.
Some Ghanaians were not only shocked by the response from FIFA but were also surprised as they believe the government is “cleaning the system” to make the country’s football free from corruption.
While FIFA’s letter was sent to the head of the Liaison Team, Dr Kofi Amoah, the response to FIFA was from the government, signed by the Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, as the Liaison Team referred the letter to the government of Ghana.
Ghana has met with FIFA to discuss the steps the government is taking to “clean the system”, however, since FIFA has not heard anything for some time, FIFA was compelled to write to Ghana to withdraw its case against the Ghana Football Association from the court.
In football, FIFA requires all governments not to intervene in football and let an independent body run football activities, nonetheless, some people are of the view that the football associations should not be fully independent so as to prevent corruption.
Below is the response from the Government of Ghana to FIFA
