A new record has been set for tickets sales for a football matches in Ghana. For the first time, over GH₵ 1 million was made from tickets sales.
The government’s E-ticket was used to sell the matchday tickets for the game between Ghana and Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
According to the National Sports Authority, the government raked in GH₵ 1.4 million from the sale of tickets and it is the highest amount from gate proceeds for a football match in the country. The previous record was held by Kotoko when the club got over GH₵ 900,000 in 2019 during the club’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Football fans raised concerns about the use of E-tickets as they believed most people would struggle to buy the tickets as compared to buying the tickets at the stadium but the tickets were sold out before the game.
Also, the situation whereby the stadium would be full but the tickets were not sold out was also avoided.
However, some football fans said they bought their tickets but they were not allowed to enter the stadium as their tickets had been used.
