The government of Ghana has told the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint Chris Hughton as the coach of the Black Stars, Oyerepa Radio reports.
Hughton, who was the Technical Advisor to the Black Stars technical team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was tipped to lead the team to the tournament, however, the GFA appointed Otto Addo who served as the Assistant Coach to his predecessor, Milovan Rajevac.
Per the report, the government wants the GFA to appoint Hughton and it has made it difficult for the GFA to look elsewhere.
The Ghanaian-Irish coach’s only job at the national team level before becoming the Technical Advisor for Ghana was when he was the Assistant coach for the Irish national team from 2003-2005.
He has spent most of his managerial career at the club level coaching his Tottenham, Newcastle, Brighton and Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham and Norwich City.
