The winner of this year’s Ghana Premier League will be given ₵300,000 as prize money, according to reports.
The money has increased by ₵50,000 after the Ghana Football Association signed a $2, 000,000 per season sponsorship deal with the betting company, betPawa for 3 years. The last two previous winners, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko were given ₵250,000 as prize money as there was no headline sponsor for the league.
According to reports, the FA has told the clubs that, each year, betPawa will use $1,000,000 of the sponsorship money to promote the league, $300,000 will be used for the construction of a pitch in Accra and the clubs and referees will share $700,000.
Kotoko and Nsoatreman are to play the first match of the 2022/2023 season on Friday, 9 September, however, the game has been postponed as Kotoko has a Champions League game against RC Kadiogo on the same day in Ivory Coast.
