Ghana’s captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed he almost joined Manchester City in the 2008 transfer window.
Gyan at that time was playing in the French Ligue 1 for Rennes where he scored 14 goals in 48 games for the French club.
He move to the English club ended while he was playing for Ghana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Ghana.
“I was close to joining Manchester City in 2008 but for an injury, I had agreed on terms with them and negotiation went well, but I picked up an injury when I was playing for Ghana at the AFCON,” he said on Adom TV’s sports show Fire for Fire show.
“I spoke to the Coach, and other top officials of the Club and everything was in line and I could have joined them just after the AFCON but because of the injury I couldn’t join.”
Gyan, however, left Rennes and signed for English club Sunderland in 2010 after an impressive performance at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The former Udinese and Liberty Professionals player left Sunderland in 2012 and signed for Al Ain where he scored 95 goals in 83 games for the United Arab Emirates club.
Gyan who currently plays for Kayesrispor in the Turkish league also played for Shanghai SIPG when he left Al Ain in 2015.
