Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Ayi has faced backlash on social media after showing up for their match against Karela United with his face covered in white powder.
The goalkeeper’s unusual appearance has led some to accuse him of using black magic, also known as “Juju”. It is unclear why Ayi made the decision to cover his face in powder.
Despite Ayi’s controversial appearance, Hearts of Oak lost the game 3-0 to Karela United. Emmanuel Boakye Owusu, Konadu Yiadom (own goal), and Richard Berko scored for the home team.
The loss leaves Hearts of Oak at risk of slipping out of the relegation zone and falling seven points behind the top spot after matchday 23.
Many have criticized Ayi’s decision to cover his face with white powder on social media, calling it backward and unacceptable in modern football.
