How Etwe Nim Nyansa, Kote Ye Aboa and Hwoa Ye Mmobo got their names

The name of these three villages are not only funny but also strange. If you do not understand the names of these villages as they are in Akan, you will understand shortly.

The names of these villages became popular after they were mentioned in Parliament. They became known worldwide after the BBC and the Dail Mail in the UK wrote about them on their website.

Now, it has been made known as to why Etwe Nim Nyansa (Vagina is Wise), Kote Ye Aboa (Penis is an Animal), and Hwoa Ye Mmobor (Testicle is Sad) got their names.
But before you get to know how they got their names, do know that the residents and elders of the villages have vowed not to change the names of their villages.

According to the residents, a long time ago, three brothers moved to the area from a village called Miawani.
Years later, one of the brothers called Kwadwo got married and started acting strangely. He listened to only his wife and his relationship with his siblings got worse day-in-day-out.
Kwadwo and his siblings’ relationship got worse until one day he sacked his siblings, Kofi Sarpong and Kofi Sammy from the house. His two brothers left and lived in different places but shared a border.
In the end, Kofi and his wife got a problem and his wife sacked him from their home. After realizing his mistake, Kwadwo said “Etwe nim nyansa paa” when he went back to leave with his siblings.

And that was how the village “Etwe Nim Nyansa” got the name. With Hwua Ye Aboa, the residents said when a man has sex with a woman, only the penis will have the sex but when the man gets a problem the testicle will not be set free. Wherever the penis goes, the testicle will also be there. So one of the brothers’ name his village Hwua Ye Mmobor and the other named his “Kote Ye Aboa” because it is the reason why the testicle will suffer.

In the past, it is believed some Chiefs wanted them to change the names but after hearing about how the villages got their names, they poured libation and vowed never to change it.
