There have been reports Asante Kotoko striker, Steve Mukwala is not going to sign a new contract with Asante Kotoko as the club cannot meet his demands.
However, according to Oyerepa Radio, Asante Kotoko has an advantage should the club and Mukwala agree to sign a new contract.
Per the report, the previous administration led by Nana Yaw Amponsah inserted clauses that makes it easy for Mukwala’s contract to be renewed.
Oyerepa Radio’s report indicates that the Ugandan is on a $3,500 a month salary, however, the management and the player agreed to peg the dollar rate at GH₵ 7 and it will remain the same whether the cedi appreciates or depreciates and it also when he is renewing his contract. At the moment a dollar is almost GH₵ 13.
Also, the two parties agreed that should he renew his contract, he will be even a salary of $4,000 meaning there will be a salary increase of $500. Thus, the club will only add GH₵ 3,500 to his current salary.
The two year contract Mukwala signed with Kotoko also has the follow clauses in it.
He should be given;
- A salon car in a good condition
- Two return air tickets from Ghana to Uganda every season
- GH₵ 10,000 if he wins top scorer in the GPL
- GH₵ 15,000 if Kotoko win the Confederation Cup
- GH₵ 20,000 if Kotoko win the Champions League
- Special bonus of GH₵ 20,000 if Kotoko win the Champions League or Confederation Cup but he must play 70% of the games
- Special bonus of GH₵ 5000 if Kotoko qualifies for the money zone of the Confederation Cup or Champions League
- Special bonus of GH₵ 5,000 if Kotoko win the league
- Special bonus of GH₵ 3,000 if Kotoko win the FA Cup
- A decent accommodation
- He will be given the same amount of winning bonus as every player
At the moment, reports in the media indicates that Mukwala has gotten offers from clubs in North Africa and he has also informed the club he would not sign a new contract
