Nana Yaw Amponsah, the CEO of Asante Kotoko, has revealed his efforts to persuade Franck Mbella Etouga to stay at the club despite strong interest from FC Zurich. Amponsah disclosed that FC Zurich wanted to sign Etouga during the January transfer window and had approached Kotoko with an offer.
Amponsah personally approached Etouga and made an impassioned appeal for him to stay and contribute to Kotoko’s CAF Champions League campaign.
In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Amponsah said, “I practically begged him because I knew FC Zurich were interested in him but would only sign him in January. So I was even begging him that if he helps us qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, his stock will rise higher, and by January, a European team will come for you, and I mentioned the name of the team to him.”
Unfortunately, Mbella chose to leave Kotoko at the end of the season and signed for El Masry in Egypt.
Nana Yaw explained that he understands him as he was earning $2000 at Kotoko so when it was going to be difficult for him to stay when El Masry offered him $25,000 a month.
However, he has struggled with health issues and hasn’t made a significant impact at his new club yet.
