Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, has revealed a heartfelt plea he made to former coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, shedding tears and going down on his knees in an attempt to persuade him to stay with the club.
Amidst the challenging moments that the club experienced, which involved instances of dishonesty, the football administrator implored Ogum to let bygones be bygones for the betterment of Asante Kotoko.
“I knelt to beg Coach Ogum to forgive and forget so that Kotoko could progress. I have shed tears as the CEO of Kotoko because of the troubles within the team, and even Ogum himself has shed tears,” Amponsah shared with Wontumi Sports.
Ogum had joined Asante Kotoko on a two-year contract ahead of the 2021/22 betPawa Premier League season after parting ways with WAFA, who now compete in the Division One League. Despite leading the Porcupine Warriors to the league title in his debut season, Ogum surprised many by leaving his role, with pundits speculating that disagreements with the management were a contributing factor.
Since Ogum’s departure, the defending champions have been unable to retain their title, currently occupying the fourth position on the league table with 51 points after 33 games.
Asante Kotoko is scheduled to host Dreams FC, the finalists of this year’s FA Cup, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, June 11.
